First graders have been busy exploring new techniques and unlocking stations! Below, you'll see photos of students working with drawing, painting, and collage materials. They have been using techniques such as blending, creating texture, and using warm and cool colors.
Kindergarten has started the year off with drawing and collage. They’ve learned how to blend colors together, what lines are, how to make collages, and how to use warm and cool colors in their art. They’ve even learned about an artist named Laurel Burch. You may notice some artwork inspired by her. These boys and girls have done a wonderful job of utilizing techniques shown to them in class and generating their own ideas.
STR Partners LLC is hosting their annual holiday card contest! I am encouraging students to participate, but it may be helpful for parents to encourage participation at home as well. Gold winners of this contest will receive a $50 Target Gift Card (Sorry parents, no adult entries ;) ). Silver winners will receive a $25 Target Gift Card.
Requirements for this contest are:
Please have your student put their first and last name, as well as their class on the back of their picture.
Entries are due to Mrs. Maloney by October 17th
3rd grade has been incorporating math in art the last week. We've been using fractions and geometric shapes to create drawings inspired by Josef Albers.
We first discussed different ways math can be used in art. Then we took a look at the life and work of Josef Albers, a German-born American artist. Students then made their own geometric shapes that they traced 10 times as a whole, 10 times as a half, and 10 times as a quarter. The results caused visual tension that will make your eyes cross! Check back to see photos of the finished products!
Kindergarten has been getting to know the art studio and decorating their portfolios in their first couple of art classes.
The coming weeks will bring with them knowledge of the color wheel!
We are going to be making some snazzy Color Wheel Collages. Check back for photos soon!
